Serves: 2, Difficulty: Expert

Preparation Time: 30 minutes, Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of ground beef
  • 250 grams of ground lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 2 lepinja flatbreads
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley

Method

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef and lamb with the onion, garlic, baking soda, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into small, uniform sausage shapes, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the Cevapi in the skillet, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and thoroughly cooked, about 7 minutes.
  • Warm the lepinja flatbreads by microwaving them for 30 seconds or briefly in the oven.
  • Place the Cevapi on the lepinja, garnishing with chopped parsley before serving.

Tips

  • For an authentic touch, allow the mixture to marinate in the refrigerator for an hour before cooking to intensify the flavors.
  • Serve with a traditional Balkan side of chopped onion and a side of ajvar or a mild pepper sauce.
