Serves: 2, Difficulty: Expert

Preparation and Cooking Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200 grams of sushi rice
  • 2 sheets of nori
  • 200 grams of fresh salmon
  • 30 ml of soy sauce
  • 10 grams of wasabi
  • 20 grams of pickled ginger
  • 30 ml of rice vinegar
  • 10 grams of sugar
  • 5 grams of salt

Method

  • Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice in 400 ml of water until tender, following standard sushi rice cooking methods.
  • In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Fold this mixture into the cooked rice, ensuring an even distribution, and allow it to cool.
  • Slice the fresh salmon into thin, even pieces, ensuring the cuts are precise and suitable for sushi.
  • Lay a nori sheet on a sushi mat. Spread half of the seasoned rice over the nori, leaving a 2 cm border at the top.
  • Lay a few slices of salmon over the rice. Roll the sushi tightly, using the mat to assist. Repeat with the second sheet of nori.
  • Slice each sushi roll into pieces, using a sharp, wet knife for clean cuts.
  • Serve the sushi with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.

Tips

  • Ensure your knife is exceedingly sharp to slice the sushi cleanly and beautifully.
  • Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking to your hands while pressing it down.
  • Use fresh, sushi-grade salmon to ensure the best flavor and texture.
