Ingredients

  • Leftover mashed potatoes: 400 grams
  • White cabbage: 100 grams, thinly sliced
  • Butter: 50 grams
  • Milk: 100 ml
  • Beef mince: 300 grams
  • Salt: 5 grams
  • Black pepper: 2 grams
  • Rosemary: 2 grams, fresh
  • Olive oil: 20 ml
  • Plain flour: 20 grams
  • Thyme: 2 grams, fresh

Method

  • In a medium-sized pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced cabbage and cook until slightly softened, about 5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the beef mince and cook until browned. Season with salt, black pepper, and fresh rosemary. Add the cooked cabbage and combine.
  • In a separate small saucepan, melt 20 grams of the butter over medium heat. Add the plain flour and stir to make a roux. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until smooth and thickened. Season with thyme.
  • In a casserole dish, spread the beef and cabbage mixture evenly. Pour the milk and butter mixture over the beef.
  • Top with the leftover mashed potatoes, spreading it evenly. Use a fork to create a decorative pattern on the surface.
  • Dot with the remaining 30 grams of butter and place the dish in a preheated oven at 180°C. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Ensure the mashed potatoes are evenly spread to create a satisfying top layer.
  • Fresh herbs add a burst of flavor; feel free to adjust to taste.
